Auditors' report to the shareholders of Siam Makro Public Company Limited We have performed a review of the balance sheets of Siam Makro Public Company Limited as at March 31, 1998 and 1997, and the consolidated balance sheets of Siam Makro Public Company Limited and its subsidiaries as at March 31, 1998 and 1997, and the related statements of income, retained earnings and statements of change in shareholders' equity for the first quarters then ended, and the related consolidated statements of income, retained earnings and consolidated statements of change in shareholders' equity for the first quarters then ended, in accordance with standards established by the Institute of Certified Accountants and Auditors of Thailand. A review of interim financial information consists principally of obtaining an understanding of the system for the preparation of interim financial information, applying analytical review procedures to financial data, and making inquiries of persons responsible for financial and accounting matters. It is substantially less in scope than an examination in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards, the objective of which is the expression of an opinion regarding the financial statements and the consolidated financial statements taken as a whole. Accordingly, we do not express such an opinion. Based on our review, we are not aware of any material modifications that should be made to the aforementioned financial statements and consolidated financial statements for them to be in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles.
